Rocky Roads Early Bronco RestorationDebuting in August 1965 the Early Bronco brought Ford into a battle that previously only had two players: Jeep and International Harvester. The first Broncos rolled out of Dearborn with a 105bhp, 170 cubic inch six cylinder but in March of 1966 Ford added the 289 as an option. Thb "utility vehicle" case only as was 4WD and with a three speed column shift and a 2-speed transfer case.

The Bronco engine remained the 200bhp V8 until the 302 was introduced in 1968. In 1973 Ford upped the cubic inches of the six to 200 and in 1975 the 302 V8 was standardized.
